YoPA Amsterdam (NL) has selected the Zuidoost neighborhood, which is known for severe health disadvantages and a high percentage of residents with a migrant background. This neighborhood has the lowest sports participation in Amsterdam among teenagers, with only 37% of boys and 10% of girls being members of a sports club, and the lowest participation among girls with a migrant background. Additionally, Zuidoost scores above average for physical and mental health issues, such as overweight, sleep problems, socio-emotional issues, and depressive symptoms. The YoPA – Amsterdam project is in line with the city’s vision for the future, known as Amsterdam 2050, which aims to address these health challenges and improve the overall health and well-being of its residents.
